NDP candidate Cheri DiNovo handily won today’s provincial by-election in Toronto’s Parkdale-High Park riding!
With all 220 polls reporting DiNovo captured 11,675 votes (41%), Sylvia Watson (hoping to retain the seat for the Liberals given up by Gerard Kennedy) got 9387 votes (33%), the Conservatives’ David Hutcheon won 4921 votes (17.3%) and Green Party perennial Frank de Jong garnered 1758 votes (6.2%).
The win brings the NDP to 9 seats (regaining official party status?) in the 103 seat legislature. The governing Liberals have 70, while the Conservatives have 24.
Congrats Cheri! You will surely liven up Queen’s Park.
