Canadian Maritimes Tour: Day One (depending on how one counts)

I arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia yesterday following a beautiful train ride aboard VIA Rail‘s “Ocean”, which left Montreal Wednesday evening. Earlier the same day I had taken a train from Toronto.

With a couple of days to relax before my escorted bus tour of the Maritimes begins I went out to Mahone Bay, home of the famous “Three Churches”,

Lunenburg, a UNESCO world heritage site and home of the famed schooners The Bluenose and Bluenose II (not to mention just a beautiful fishing village),

and finally to beautiful Peggy’s Cove

After checking into my hotel I took a self-guided sightseeing tour of the city’s downtown and waterfront, including an evening sail aboard the Mar II (I didn’t ask what became of the Mar I).
