Conservative backbencher mentions AIDS Awareness Week

AIDS Awareness Week is underway and some parliamentarians are sporting red ribbons with nice gold-looking pins. The Prime Minister is not, at least not yet.

During Members Statements today, ahead of Question Period, Kelowna-Lake Country Conservative Ron Cannan expressed support for those affected by HIV/AIDS (constituting ‘news’ from the point of view of yours truly), as did Hamilton East-Stoney Creek New Democrat Wayne Marston who paid tribute to Stephen Lewis as he prepares to leave his post as UN Envoy for HIV/AIDS.

It’s early in the week yet but Liberals and the governing Conservatives have a lot to answer for as our Chretien-Martin-era pledge of generic drugs to Africa remains twisted in enough red tape to give every woman, man and child in Canada a red ribbon of our own.
