Liberals opt to continue delegated leadership carnivals

What to make of Liberals’ decision to stand out in the pack as the only major party to reject some version of the one member-one vote leadership convention?

Delegates have decided on behalf of their members – and by extension the country they hope to lead again some day – that expensive media sideshows like this weekend’s, full of intrigue and delegate bartering which CBC Newsworld and CTV lap up like parched dogs, are the way to continue as a national party.

The ratings, whatever they may turn out to be, don’t make it right. This from the party which, during Paul Martin’s brief tenure, pledged to slay the democratic deficit.

  1. I’m not surprised. This was voted on by people who were there, right? So they obviously don’t understand (or care) that many cannot afford to attend national conventions (especially with a nearly $1000 fee).

So much for grassroots renewal, eh?
